Nickelback最早成立于加拿大的小城Hanna，1996年他们以一张EP唱片Hesher和首张独立专辑Curb开始闯荡乐坛。在没有丝毫名气的情况下，他们想尽办法宣传自己：巡回演出、散发宣传资料和广告，以及发动亲戚朋友向电台打电话要求播放他们的歌曲等等。
